Fixed Brake Discs

Floating Brake Discs

• replacement of the original brake disc;

How to Choose a Compatible Brake Disc

Selecting the motorcycle make and model is the first step, but it may not always be sufficient. Motorcycles with the same commercial name may use different brake discs depending on the year, version or specification.

Before purchasing, compare the information in the product description with the disc fitted to your motorcycle, checking:

• outer diameter;
• inner diameter;
• braking surface thickness;
• number and position of the mounting holes;
• mounting hole pitch circle diameter;
• offset;
• front or rear mounting position;
• right- or left-hand installation, where applicable;
• compatibility with the brake caliper and brake pads.

Where the product description states that the disc is interchangeable with the original equipment component, all listed applications and dimensions for that specific product code must still be checked and respected.

Checking Brake Disc Wear

Brake disc thickness should be checked regularly and must not fall below the minimum value marked on the component or stated in the relevant technical documentation.

The brake disc must be replaced when it reaches the minimum service thickness or shows signs of abnormal wear or damage, such as deep grooves, distortion, cracks, uneven wear or other defects.

There is no single replacement interval suitable for every motorcycle, as brake disc wear depends on the type of use, the brake pads fitted, the temperatures reached and the condition and maintenance of the braking system.

Installation, Brake Pads and Bedding-In

When replacing a brake disc, the condition of the brake pads, caliper and other braking system components should also be checked. Heavily worn brake pads, or pads shaped to the surface of the old disc, may prevent correct contact with the new component.

Installation must be carried out in accordance with the motorcycle manufacturer’s technical instructions, specified tightening torques and any required bedding-in procedure for the brake discs and pads.

As the brake disc is a safety-critical component, installation and final inspection should be carried out by qualified personnel.
